There is a lot of research being conducted in the field of mesothelioma treatment. Researches help in developing new treatment options or improving the existing traditional treatment options. There are also many mesothelioma clinical trials under way to find out new treatments for ensuring safety and efficiency. However, there is no 100% surety that a particular treatment option for mesothelioma is successful.
It is a myth that mesothelioma is a hereditary disease. However, there is likelihood that people living in the same household might be prone to this form of cancer. This is because they are also exposed to asbestos fibers that are brought home by their family member working in a site where asbestos is used. As these fibers are very fine and light, they can become airborne and enter the lungs of an unsuspecting family member.
Mesothelioma is a kind of cancer caused due to excessive exposure to asbestos. Its prognosis is dependent on the stage of the disease and the age of the patient. Apart from this, there is also the factor of health condition of the patient and the kind of mesothelioma.
Sarcomatoid mesothelioma is not very common. It only accounts for about 6 to 19 percent of mesothelioma cases and cancer cells. There are three cellular mesothelioma types; biphasic, epithelial and sarcomatoid. Malignant sarcomatoid mesothelioma is not as common as biphasic and epithelial. Scarcomatoid cells are detected by its shape which is oval shaped with a little irregularity. However, the irregular oval shape is also common among other cancer cells like sarcomatoid carcinoma and sarcoma and can create confusion if not diagnosed correctly.
