Chicago’s Landmark Pittsfield Building Closed after Asbestos Threat

The Illinois Department of Public Health ordered an immediate halt to renovation working going on at the Pittsfield Building, 55 E. Washington, a Chicago landmark due to improper asbestos removal. Nine floors i.e. from 13 to 21 floors of the 38 storied building were closed a week ago while the rest continue to be occupied by the residents.

The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization ADAO has launched a free online video library named the Asbestos Video Library or AVL to promote education of asbestos related diseases to increase awareness among people. This free online video library will provide information about asbestos related diseases, treatment options and development, asbestos exposure and preventive methods on avoiding exposure to asbestos.

Montana Senator Threatens EPA with Subpoena over Asbestos Clean Up In Libby

During a community meeting with EPA Administrator Steven Johnson, Montana Senator Max Baucus threatened to pursue a subpoena for EPA documents regarding asbestos conditions in Libby, Montana. This threat was issued in the Libby City Hall where the residents gathered to hear the EPA administrator talk about why a public health emergency was not declared in Libby in 2002 concerning the grave asbestos situation in the state. Libby is home to W.R Grace Vermiculite mine that lead to extensive asbestos exposure and caused mesothelioma in hundreds of people.
