The Illinois Department of Public Health ordered an immediate halt to renovation working going on at the Pittsfield Building, 55 E. Washington, a Chicago landmark due to improper asbestos removal. Nine floors i.e. from 13 to 21 floors of the 38 storied building were closed a week ago while the rest continue to be occupied by the residents.
Doctors in West Dallas have diagnosed 15 people suffering from asbestos related diseases and some more people with spotting on their lungs that might lead to asbestos diseases. The cause of all these asbestos problems is said to be a local mineral processing plant where asbestos is used.

During a community meeting with EPA Administrator Steven Johnson, Montana Senator Max Baucus threatened to pursue a subpoena for EPA documents regarding asbestos conditions in Libby, Montana. This threat was issued in the Libby City Hall where the residents gathered to hear the EPA administrator talk about why a public health emergency was not declared in Libby in 2002 concerning the grave asbestos situation in the state. Libby is home to W.R Grace Vermiculite mine that lead to extensive asbestos exposure and caused mesothelioma in hundreds of people.
